Problem Statement: Height of the Ferris Wheel from the ground is 65 feet. The radius of the Ferris Wheel 50 feet. The time that is takes to make a full rotation is 40 seconds. Every 9 degrees is takes to move is only 1 second. The speed of the cart 15 feet for 1 second. The level off the ground 8 feet. The track of the cart 240 feet.
Things you need to know:
Formula for the height of the diver at any giving point:
H= [sin ( 9*T ) * R] + 65
Formula for the distance the diver would fall:
D = [ (32 ft/s/s * T) / 2] * T
The formula carts position at anytime:
-240+15 fps * T
Solution:
With the whole class we went step by step and used each formula figuring out factors to determine an answer. The biggest factors we had to take into account was the length, and height of the ferris wheel. We also had to take into account the divers starting point and the carts starting point and when and how do they line up. After doing all those steps we came to the conclusion that the diver is released 12.28 seconds after the start of the cart. Then the diver will fall perfectly into the tub of water.
The main formula:
-240+15ft+57+50sin(9t)/16
Self Assessment:
I worked very well on this project. I feel that I deserve an A+ because I really applied myself to this problem I really tired to figure out all different angles to this problem. Even after we have been working on this project for a few months and it can seem endless.
Things you need to know:
- The Ferris Wheel's center is 65 ft high with a radius of 50 ft
- The diver starts at the 3 o'clock position
- The cart moves at 15 feet per second
- The cart has a water level at 8ft and starts at 240 ft to the left of the center
- The Ferris wheel moves counter-clockwise at 1 rotation per 40 sec
Formula for the height of the diver at any giving point:
H= [sin ( 9*T ) * R] + 65
